About this Speaker

Ted Rau is a trainer, consultant and co-founder of the non-profit movement support organization Sociocracy For All

He grew up in suburban Germany and studied linguistics, literature and history in Tübingen before earning his PhD in linguistics there in 2010. As part of that career, he moved to the USA and fulfilled a long-held wish to live in an intentional community. Since a career in Academia required more moving around than he was willing to do, he left Academia and now lives with his family with 5 children and 70 neighbors in Massachusetts.

Presenting female back then, he transitioned in the last few years and identifies as transgender male. Feeling a bit ambivalent about his passing privileges, but life is much happier now! His kids say they grow up with 5 children and 3 dads. Adding the chosen family in the community, it’s a wonderfully complex web of relationships and interdependence.

His work is driven by the people who suffer in organizations. If we spend so much time with others, neighbors, colleagues, co-volunteers - why not make those groups places of belonging, shared purpose and companionship? That’s where sociocracy fits in, supporting more forward motion while deepening connections.
